چکیده
External installation of steel braces is an effective approach to increase the lateral load resistance moment-resisting frames. However, effects existence on robustness frames resist progressive collapse still not clear because little study has been carried out. To fill this gap, in paper, six multistory subframes (three bare and three braced frames) were fabricated tested. Test results indicated that specimen with reduced beam section connection zone performed best among types connections due guaranteed formation plastic hinges at location avoiding brittle fracture weld connection. Experimental proved could load-resisting capacity by 45.1% 83.9% frame end plate connection, respectively. The gusset restricted rotation second story V-shaped bracing, which decreased its deformation degraded catenary action capacity. Actually, ultimate bracing only 87.5% counterpart without any braces. Because compressive severely buckled before displacement reached 0.4% span, it had effect yield but increased initial stiffness Thus, a majority benefits system attributed tensile Moreover, analytical evaluated differences development mechanisms different stories. Furthermore, contribution was decomposed individually analysis.

Comparison of Progressive Collapse Capacity of Steel Moment Resisting Frames and Dual Systems with Buckling Retrained Braces
Progressive collapse is a condition where local failure of a primary structural component leads to the collapse of neighboring members and the whole structure, consequently. In this paper, the progressive collapse potential of seismically designed steel dual systems with buckling restrained braces is investigated using the alternate path method, and their performances are compared with those of...
متن کاملComparison of the Progressive Collapse Resistance of Seismically Designed Steel Shear Wall Frames And Special Steel Moment Frames
In this study, the progressive collapse potential of seismically designed steel plate shear wall (SPSW) systems is investigated using the alternate path method, and their performances are compared with those of the conventional special moment frame (SMF) systems. Nonlinear static and dynamic analyses are conducted to follow the progressive collapse of the structures, and their ability of absorb...
متن کاملEffect of Initial Local Failure Type on Steel Braced Frame Buildings against Progressive Collapse
In many studies, the alternative load path method (APM) has been used for progressive collapse analysis. In this method, one or several columns of the building are removed and the building response is investigated. This method ignores the initial local failure cause of building and this can affect the structural response. Investigation of ignoring the initial local failure cause of steel braced...
متن کاملRobustness Assessment of Steel Moment Resisting Frames
Nowadays, many buildings with steel Moment Resisting Frames (MRF) are built in seismic zones when seismic codes are at its early stages of development, and as such, these structures are often designed solely to resist lateral wind loads without providing an overall ductile mechanism. On the other hand, current seismic design criteria based on hierarchy of resistance allow enhancing the structur...
